Superintendent Update

Earlier this school year, MSD Warren Township began exploring the possibility of returning our 5th-grade students to elementary schools. We believe this change could strengthen relationships, provide a more consistent continuum of support, and create a smoother progression throughout their Warren Journey.

To guide this work, we partnered with a professional demographer, Woolpert, to review enrollment trends and school capacity. Through that process, we learned that moving 5th graders back as early as next school year would cause several elementary schools to exceed capacity and require relocating some specialized programs. Due to these challenges, this change will not occur next year.

We know families want what is best for their children, and so do we. While we were hopeful to make this transition sooner, we remain committed to ensuring that next year’s 5th-grade students have a high-quality, supportive experience within our current structure. We will continue strengthening programming and supports to meet their academic and social-emotional needs.

With projected enrollment growth beginning in 2027–2028, the district has decided to renovate four elementary schools ( Lowell, Grassy Creek, Hawthorne, and Pleasant Run)  by adding four classrooms to each campus. This work will create the space needed to support both current students and future growth in all 9 elementary schools. Renovations will take place over the next year and a half, with completion targeted for the start of the 2027–2028 school year.

During the coming school year, we will continue working with Woolpert, along with our students, families, and staff , to explore potential boundary adjustments and review our elementary high ability service model. Families will have opportunities to provide input before any final decisions are made.

We understand that conversations about grade levels and school boundaries can bring questions and emotions. Please know that every decision is guided by what is best for students, both now and in the future. We value your partnership and encourage you to reach out to me or your child’s principal with any questions.
